Optimus Tower Austria ensures even better indoor mobile coverage at IKEA Austria

Optimus Tower Austria (OTA), the largest 100% independent operator of telecommunications infrastructure in Austria, has equipped four IKEA stores in Austria with neutral in-house mobile phone coverage: customers in the IKEA stores in Vienna North, Graz, Salzburg and Klagenfurt can now enjoy a seamless surfing experience while shopping, made possible by Optimus Tower Austria thanks to the networks of the two mobile phone providers Drei and Magenta. Further stores are to be equipped with this technology over the course of 2025.

Vienna, 07.04.2025 - Optimus Tower Austria (OTA), the largest 100% independent operator of telecommunications infrastructure in Austria, has equipped four IKEA stores with neutral in-house mobile coverage in cooperation with IKEA Austria. The locations in Vienna North, Salzburg, Graz and Klagenfurt now benefit from optimal mobile coverage thanks to a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) in the network of the mobile operators Drei and Magenta.

"By working closely with Optimus Tower Austria, we were able to successfully raise the mobile phone coverage in four of our stores to the best possible level. As our customers increasingly use their smartphones when shopping in our stores, optimum reception is important for a pleasant shopping experience. With the mobile network operators Drei and Magenta, we offer a high-performance mobile network across the board. And with OTA, we have found a strong partner to equip our in-house mobile network for the future requirements of increasing data volumes," explains Claudio Winkler, Country Digital & Business Development Manager at IKEA Austria.

A step into the future of digital infrastructure

The collaboration between Optimus Tower Austria and IKEA Austria is an important step towards the future of digital customer infrastructure in retail: the provision of indoor mobile communications in the IKEA stores in Vienna North, Graz, Salzburg and Klagenfurt will not only improve the shopping experience for customers, but also future-proof the connectivity of the locations.

With more than 4,600 sites throughout Austria, Optimus Tower Austria is the largest fully independent provider of communication sites in Austria. OTA determines the needs and requirements for each location and delivers each project on a turnkey basis.

"A seamless indoor mobile connection in retail is essential to make shopping as pleasant as possible for customers. As an independent operator of telecommunications infrastructure, Optimus Tower Austria has the necessary expertise and can create a suitable indoor mobile communications concept for all partners - IKEA Austria is the best example of this. We are regularly in close contact with the mobile network operators and know the technical specifications and requirements that the local providers place on the design of a DAS system," emphasises Optimus Tower Austria.
